Well I believe...part V
Just a quick review of where we've been...have you ever been in a religious conversation where the person says something like, "it is fine for you to believe that, but I believe..." So, for the past 5 weeks we've been talking about beliefs. Each week we look at one belief and discuss if it is something that ALL Christians MUST believe, or is it open to discussion.
This week's topic should be another fun one. A basic belief of the Christian Church (Church in general- not the denomination) is that Jesus is the only way to heaven.
A few quick questions: where does this leave everyone who isn't a Christian? What about Ghandi...is he in Hell because he didn't believe in Christ?
Is the belief of Jesus being the only way to heaven something that ALL Christians MUST accept?
I can't wait to hear what you think.

It is sad to think but yes, I believe that those you didnt know Christ are in Hell. Those who didnt accept him are in Hell. It is super sad to think that but in this day and age its hard not to know who Christ was with all the ways to proclaim his word. It is also up to us to teach and preach to those who havent heard.
That long lost tribe in the middle of the rain forrest, yeah they're lost too, its up to us to teach them the word.
Thats my belief in the for what its worth department.
This is always a tough one because as Christians we don't want to condemn others or judge them to where they end up.
But all scripture is God breathed and scripture says that the only way to Him is through Jesus.. the belief that Jesus came to this earth as a man, lived a perfect sinless life and was crucified and rose from the dead. So I'm with Brian & the bible.. gotta go through God to get to heaven.. doesn't matter how many good works you've done. Good works are a result of your obedience and the fruits of God once you've accepted Him into your heart.
Jesus said "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" and I believe that to be true. You can't get to our Father in heaven without going through Jesus. Period.
(Scripture from John 14)
Great comments guys. I hope you've enjoyed reading each others. I agree with all of you, and think that the Bible is pretty clear about it. This is a belief that ALL Christians MUST have.
BUT, not all Christians do believe this. Not having this belief causes many other problems. It is kind of like dominoes...if this belief falls, many other beliefs are going to fall also.
So my question is this: if you don't have this belief, what other problems does it cause?
Example: many of you have already mentioned that in John 14:6 Jesus says that he is the only way. If you don't believe this, then you believe Jesus lied...if you believe Jesus lied, then he sinned...
OK. Your turn again. Knock over one dominoe, or knock over a whole row. I'm looking forward to what you all think.
That is tough to think about Jes. I know that many times I can be insensitive about it because I've got an amazingly good family situation.
Pretty much everyone has mentioned John 14:6. I think that everyone understands the meaning of the verse, but I also think that we often misunderstand the intent of the verse.
"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me"
Those words of Jesus are often used in an almost threatening way...'you better become a Christian or else'...But in reality, Jesus was using the words to COMFORT the disciples. Jesus was telling the disciples that he was going to leave (he was about to be killed). They were all scared and were asking him how they could find him. To comfort them Jesus said the famous words. I imagine him saying "...no one comes to the father..." pausing to let it sink in that they can't get to where he was going, and then winking and saying, "except through me (you can)."
I hope this verse can comfort people. We can know that we can get to heaven through Jesus.
I'm not sure who Christopher is.. I checked out his blog and he seems harmless. I think he's just a fan of our blog! =)
Welcome Christopher!
